There's a story that goes with this painting. I painted this door and window above it for hours, sitting in a windowsill across the street from it. I didn't notice, but someone from this house was watching me.
When I was almost finished, the door opened and a man came out and came over to see what I had done. He admired the picture and asked me if I would like to see within. I was hesitant, but he said he had an art collection. He sure did. Stacked in the rooms, three floors of them, were great abstracts, Impressionists, realistic and other recognizable and unrecognizable paintings. Paintings were everywhere, in every room.
He had a lady who lived with him, an artist, and she offered me tea. After my visit I hurried off, late to meet my friends, leaving my hat. Later, I returned and they were happy to return it to me and again shared their collection with me.
